Today, parents have many childcare options to choose from. Unlike our relatives of the past, who largely relied on family members to watch over children, we have the option to hire childcare professionals. Once you know what your options are, you can choose a childcare option that suits your family’s lifestyle and budget.
There are several advantages to choosing day care centers. First, the industry is regulated and practitioners are licensed. Those that follow the industry regulations should, therefore, know how to provide proper childcare services. Unfortunately, we always hear horror stories about the terrible conditions at such-and-such day care. The industry is largely reliable, but you should visit the center and talk to the employees who work there to help you choose an option that you are comfortable with.
Day care centers are also fairly affordable for most people. They are certainly cheaper than hiring a nanny. Of course, this means that your child won’t get the one-on-one attention that a nanny can offer. Then again, your child will have other toddlers to socialize with during the day.
Childcare Options from Nannies
Nannies can provide the most direct attention to your child because the professional does not have to worry about caring for an entire classroom of kids. Many people appreciate this one-on-one attention, and many children form close bonds with their nannies. Some parents also like that the nanny provides in-home services.
All of these enhanced services come at a cost. Nannies are the most expensive of the childcare options. If your family hires a nanny, then you can expect to pay two to three thousand dollars each month. After all, the nanny relies on you for her whole salary. Some nannies will watch over the children of several families at once. This helps each family pay a more affordable price, but it also negates much of the one-on-one service that you wanted.
There are drawbacks to choosing nannies for your childcare options too. Since you completely rely on the nanny for your childcare, you will find it difficult to make arrangements when your employee gets sick or decides to quit. Day care centers can make up for missing employees because they have so many people working there. This is not the case with nannies, though.
Socializing the child is also more difficult with nannies because you have to make special play dates with other parents. Children who go to day care have other kids around them all the time. Those at home with the nanny, however, have to make special arrangements just to spend time with their peers.
The Most Affordable Childcare Options
The most affordable childcare options are to have relatives watch your children or choose a parent to stay at home with the kids. Quitting your job to watch the kids might sound completely impossible because your family relies on two incomes. Depending on how much you make, though, you might find that you can actually save money in the long run by staying home instead of paying someone else to watch your children.
