It can be a showplace of your creative ideas for baby. Many baby nurseries are a decorator’s dream come true with decorating delights for the eyes. Creating the perfect welcome home place for your baby is about more than coordinating the right wall paper border with the color paint on the trim.
The nursery is undoubtedly the place where your baby is going to spend more time than any other room in your home to start. Making this room pleasing to the eye and comfortable for both you and baby is essential. It is even more important to make sure your baby’s new room is safe and functions as needed.
If you are preparing to design and decorate your baby’s nursery, consider checking out what’s available before making any decisions. Go to the website of your favorite baby store and you should be able to get a pretty good idea of what’s on the market. It is a good idea to choose your baby’s furniture first and coordinate items around it but there are no hard and strict rules that say you have to do the furniture first; especially if you’ve found a paint swatch color or carpet color that’s a must have.
A well-furnished nursery has several basic pieces of furniture but if your budget doesn’t allow, a safe place for the baby to sleep is most important and it can be a crib, layette or playpen. Remember other pieces can be added at a later time. A word of caution, however, is necessary if you are considering purchasing used items. It cannot be stressed enough the importance of safety for used items. If you do not have a way to evaluate the safety of the product, the savings are not worth the risk to your baby.
In addition to your baby’s sleeping place, there are a few things, at a minimum that will help to create the perfect room for your baby:
• Bedding basics such as comforter, sheets, dust ruffle and mobile (musical a plus)
• Diapers
• Clothing items including undershirts, sleepers, socks, gowns, receiving blankets, booties, bibs, shoes and playwear
• Bathing needs such as hooded towels, baby wash, wash cloths, baby bath tub
• General nursery items such as cloth diapers, lap pads, pacifiers (if your baby chooses), thermometer, baby intercom system, first aid kit, night light
• Feeding needs such as bottle warmer, plastic bottles, nipples, and for mom’s who are nursing: breast pump, nursing pads
Remember that the most important aspects of your baby’s new room are you and your baby. Explore all of your options before designing the layout of your baby’s nursery. Be sure to set up your baby’s nursery the way you like; you’re going to spend a lot of time there with your baby. Even if you cannot fully furnish your baby’s nursery, invest in a good rocking chair. Both you and your baby will get many enjoyable hours of pleasure from the simple process of rocking together.
