By the time your child becomes a teenager, they may not want you to be overly involved in planning the social events in which they participate. Planning a fun teen birthday party may involve your taking a step back and allowing your teen to put together the party plans that will make them the happiest as their birthday approaches. It will be important for you to help guide their party plans, however, as you will still be responsible for the budget for that party as well as for overseeing the execution of many of the facets of the party.
Encourage your teen to start planning for their birthday party well enough in advance. Kids today are very busy and so if a party is not planned in advance, it may be hard to pull off. As soon as a date is set, it should be made known, even if invitations are not yet ready to get out. This will ensure that more kids will be available to attend the party.
Choosing a time and a place for the party will be the most important decisions that are made. If you have a low budget, plan for a home party but help your teen to plan it in such a way that lots of fun activities are incorporated to make the party fun. If you will be hosting your teen birthday party outside of the home, negotiate early on to get the best possible prices for the party itself.
Help guide your teen through writing the guest list for their party. Many teenagers are inclined to invite everyone they have ever known or every other kid in their class to their social events. Others are happy to limit their invitation lists to just the group of kids they regularly hang out with. Either way, help them to mold the guest least to an amount of people that can be feasibly managed and supervised and that you can readily pay for with the budget you have available. The larger the guest list, the more parents you should ask ahead of time to help you supervise the party.
Food is a very important consideration for teen birthday parties as teenagers eat nearly constantly. As soon as the foundation decisions have been made for your teen’s birthday party, begin planning the menu. If your party will not be at home, you may be bound by the menu at the venue you have chosen. If at home, you will have a lot more control over what is served and this can be a lot more budget friendly. Although it is your teen’s birthday, get them involved in the food preparation so they can see how much hard work goes into planning and executing a party.
Finally, sit back and watch your child have a great time at their birthday party! All of the hard work and money spent is well worth seeing the happiness on your child’s face!
