Thanksgiving Crafts

Holidays are a great time to let the kids get creative with crafts. Instead of spending a lot of money on holiday décor, why not let the kids have a great time creating it? Use these simple Thanksgiving crafts for kids to keep your family occupied during this Thanksgiving season.

If you’re planning to host Thanksgiving at your house this year, get the kids involved by letting them help you create one-of-a-kind place cards. While place cards may seem a bit fussy, they can be a great way to ensure everyone is sitting in a comfortable location and near those they most often converse with. To do this simple craft, purchase heavy stock place card paper and ink pads in brown and light brown. Allow the children to apply brown ink to their thumb and place it on the stock card twice, to create the turkey’s body and head. Then allow them to use their fingers with the light brown ink to create the turkey’s feathers. Finish the project with an orange marker and draw the turkey’s feet, beak and eyes.

For easy table decorations, help the kids gather pinecones from the park or yard to make pinecone turkeys! Collect pipe cleaners in colors of yellow, red, orange and purple. Also purchase a bag of brown pom poms, a bottle of craft glue, a pack of “google eyes” and a few pieces of red and yellow felt. Use the pinecone as the turkey’s body and glue a brown pom pom on one end for the turkey’s head. Then cut out a small beak and wattle from the felt and glue it, along with the eyes, to the brown pom pom to finish the face area. Loop the pipe cleaners to the back of the pinecone and attach, to create pipe cleaner feathers. To finish, use orange pipe cleaners to create the legs and feet.
