While adults love spending the holidays at the dinner table talking about the year’s events, children can become bored very easily during the Thanksgiving celebrations. Thus, parents should always have a few Thanksgiving games for kids in mind before heading off to grandma’s house for dinner with the family. These easy games are perfect for children of any age!
One game many families like to participate in each year is the tablecloth scribble. For this game, families should line their table (of the kiddie table) with wide sheets of paper or disposable tablecloths in light colors. White or yellow tablecloths work best. Each child gets a marker (use permanent for non-paper tablecloths) and takes turns going around the circle and writing one thing they’re thankful for on the tablecloth.
If a child runs out of things to write, they are out of the game. The child who can think of the most things to be thankful for and write is the “winner”. This game is terrific because it is something the children can do after they eat and the adults are still chatting or before the food is served, when children tend to get a little restless from waiting.
For the family who never misses the Macy’s parade on Thanksgiving, a friendly game of parade Bingo is a great addition to holiday fun. Parents can create (or print off) Bingo boards with the squares being filled with the names of popular holiday floats. The family can then watch the parade together and cover the spaces as the floats appear online. The person who covers a complete line first, wins!
