Families spend thousands of dollars each year on dental health care. Most often this high cost is due to poor dental health in kids. While parents often take the time to tend to their own teeth, they can quickly forget to remind their children about the benefits associated with proper dental care. To ensure great kids dental health, parents should use these three tips!

Step #1: Brush Together

One thing parents often make the mistake of doing is allowing their children to brush their teeth alone. The problem with allowing younger children to brush alone is they often don’t brush long enough or use an appropriate technique. They may miss many teeth during their cleaning! Older children who try to resist authority will often tell their parents they’ve brushed, when in fact they haven’t.

Step #2: Start Early

Many parents don’t realize they should get their children into the habit of brushing after each meal when they first start getting their baby teeth. Specific products should be used, depending on the age of the child. Even if the parent is doing the brushing for the child, the routine of establishing good dental care will begin.

Step #3: Make It Fun

If children are resisting the idea of brushing their teeth, parents should make the process fun. Parents can easily make the act fun by playing fun music during “teeth brushing time”. The music can help children take their mind off of what they may feel is a daunting task, making them more willing to brush. In addition, they are more likely to brush longer if they have a song to brush to!
