How you make mashed potatoes is based on you and your dinner guests preferences. While some prefer homemade potatoes, others do not mind the instant variation. However, homemade potatoes are not hard to make (just the peeling is a pain)! Firstly, choose a great potato to share with your guests. A Yukon gold is a great variation for a holiday meal. My recipe will serve a table of 8, adjust the ingredients according for more or less.
Items you will need:
- 3 pounds of potatoes, quartered and peeled
- 8 tablespoons of heavy cream
- 4 tablespoons (half stick) of butter
- 2 tablespoons of milk
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- Pepper to season
- Potato masher
To start, put your potatoes into a pan and add salt. From there add water until the potatoes are covered completely. Bring them to a boil, and then reduce heat and simmer them covered for 15-20 minutes. Check them periodically with a fork. Once you can poke into a potato, you know they are done. Rom there warm cream and melt your butter together. Drain the water from the potatoes and place them in a bowl. Add your cream and butter mixture and use a potato masher to mash the potatoes. From there, you can use a strong spoon in order to beat them more, depending on your preference on the consistency. Add salt and pepper to taste. SERVE & ENJOY!
