Black Friday, the shopping holiday on the Friday after Thanksgiving, is the biggest shopping day of the year. While professionals suggest that sales might not be highest on this day, but the bulk of customers surely is. Because many people are off of work and the impeding Christmas holiday is apparent after Thanksgiving ends, stores open early (sometimes as early as 4 am) in order to get shopping in the stores to purchase Christmas items. Many stores offer large sales with large markdowns in order to drive shoppers to their store and to raise profits before the beginning of the New Year.

Many door buster deals are offers at both department stores and other stores including music/entertainment stores such as Best Buy, sporting stores such as Sports Authority, and department stores such as J.C. Penney’s.

Black Friday is notorious for its large number of shopping resulting in long lines. However, the returns that shoppers see from enduring these lines helps to save their pocketbooks greatly! If one is focused on getting a specific item, arriving early at a store and waiting in line to go inside may be important as some stores only have a limited number of sale items available.

But what about the actual day of Thanksgiving? Are any stores open? Turns out this year retailers are expecting a sales slump. So much so that many like stores like Kmart will be open on Thanksgiving day.
