There are several things that must be done in order to cook a turkey properly. This process begins with choosing the right size turkey for your guests. After purchasing the turkey and freezing it until the big day, making sure the turkey is thawed properly is imperative to its proper cooking. After the turkey is brined and thus prepared for roasting, cooking the turkey at the proper temperature is important to serve it the best you can.

In order to ensure your turkey is not dried out, cook your turkey to nearly 180 degrees Fahrenheit. This is a guaranteed way that all bacteria will be killed before hitting your table. This also allowed flavor and moisture to be maximized. Some cooks say that cooking a turkey to only 165 degrees is acceptable. They pull the bird out of the oven and allow it to “self” cook the rest of the way for about 30 minutes.

Also note that professionals suggest you do not use pop-up timers as they allow a turkey to cook to 180 and then when the bird is sitting it overcooks and dries out.
