When my children were smaller I normally carried them on my hip. It has always been my natural instinct to pick up a baby and place them directly on my hip. In order to be sure you are holding a baby correctly without causing any harm, Janeen Howard has created a video on Howcast with tips and information.
Before holding an infant in this position, ensure the baby is at least six months old and able to hold her head up on her own. Holding a baby like this before they are able to properly hold their head could cause the baby to have trauma to their neck.
Another important thing to remember, and this is for your safety, is to ensure when picking up the baby that you bend your knees. Simply bending over and picking up the child causes extra strain on your back.
