How to Make Eggnog

By Amber Ortega on December 5th, 2008

Eggnog is something that comes with the holidays.
It is a tradition in many households.  Although there are many pre-made varieties for sale in your local supermarket, many people enjoy the taste of making it from scratch.
If you would like to try your hand at making eggnog, try this recipe for an easy treat.

Ingredients:

  • 6 eggs
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 quart milk
  • 1/3 pint heavy whipping cream
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt

Directions:

  1. Beat eggs; beat in condensed milk, vanilla extract, milk and salt.
  2. Beat the whipping cream until soft peaks form.  Fold in egg mixture.  Sprinkle with nutmeg prior to serving.

There are also versions of eggnog that include liquor.  If you would like to try one of these versions, a great one is Brandy Eggnog.

  1. Beat egg yolks, 1/4 cup sugar, nutmeg, salt and vanilla with an electric mixer until it becomes very thick and turns light yellow.
  2. Slowly beat in brandy and milk.  Cover and chill overnight.
  3. Prior to serving, beat egg whites until they form soft peaks.
  4. Beat in remaining 1/4 cup sugar until the cream forms soft peaks.  Fold meringue into the beaten cream.
