During each of my pregnancies the most asked question was always, Are you having a boy or girl? Even if it was too early to find out by an ultrasound, I was given predictions and offered many ways to find out what I was having by using old wives tales. Of course to humor them I would do whatever they suggested, sometimes it was right and sometimes it wasn’t, but it was all for fun.
Here are some of the tricks you can try to see what you are having:
If the shape of your abdomen is low and wide you are more likely to be carrying a girl. If you are more round and carrying higher you are likely to be carrying a boy. In all three of my pregnancies this was correct and I have noticed that it has been correct in most all of my friends. With my daughter I was carrying low, but with my boys I was carrying much higher and my stomach resembled a basketball.
Using the Ancient Chinese Birth Chart is said to have 93% accuracy, although I hadn’t ever tried it. This uses your age and the date of conception to determine how likely you are to have a boy or girl.
The Wedding Ring Test is done by holding your wedding band from a string above the stomach. If the ring moves side to side you are said to be having a girl. If the ring moves in circles you are said to be having a boy. I don’t remember the results of this with my first two, but I know with my last it was correct, predicting a boy.
The Drano Gender Prediction Test is completed by using a glass jar/bowl and mixing 2-3 ounces of urine with two tablespoons of Crystal Drano. If the urine darkens or turns brown you are said to be having a boy. If the urine stays light in color you are said to be having a girl. If you are attempting this method, please mix outside because the fumes are toxic. I have never tried this as I do not want to inhale the fumes from the mixture.
The rate of the heartbeat is also said to determine if you are carrying a boy or girl. If the heart rate is over 140 you are said to be carrying a boy, below that you are to be having a girl. This method was correct in all my children as early as the first or second time of hearing the heartbeat.
So with all of these ways to try to determine the sex of your baby, what is the best or most accurate? None, the only 100% accurate method is child birth. Even with an ultrasound you can be told incorrectly. More than once I have known people that were told they were having either a girl or boy, then at birth were devastated to find out they were having the opposite after picking out names, decorating the nursery and buying the clothes and accessories. Even just for fun, try out these methods, see what happens and make your own prediction on what you are having.
