USPS Christmas Hours

By Amber Ortega on December 22nd, 2008

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is one of the busiest places during the holiday season.  With all of the extra mail, due primarily to Christmas Cards and gifts being sent, many USPS offices will extend their hours during the holiday season.

Although each office may be different, due to the traffic and staffing.  All offices will be closed on Christmas day, December 25, 2008 and on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2009.  There will be no mail delivery on those days.  If you want to be sure your gift makes it to the destination by Christmas morning,  you will want to get those packages in the mail as soon as possible.  The last day for delivery is December 24.

USPS recommends the following mail-by dates to ensure your gift(s) arrives on time:

  • Dec. 4 — Military mail destined for Iraq or Afghanistan
  • Dec. 11 — Military mail for other overseas bases
  • Dec. 16 — Parcel Post, the most economical shipping service
  • Dec. 20 — First-Class Mail
  • Dec. 20 — Priority Mail
  • Dec. 23 — Express Mail

The deadlines are getting closer, you  only have a few days left to get those packages out…the sooner the better!  Always remember to clearly write name(s) and address(es) on all packages and always put a return address just in case something goes wrong!
