Most experts agree that the healthiest start to life that parents can give to their child is by breastfeeding them. Breast milk contains a perfect blend of the essential vitamins and nutrients that a growing baby needs to start life off on the right foot. While commercially made formulas can be a decent source of kids nutrition, they cannot precisely replicate the delicate balance available in breast milk. From a nutritional standpoint, breastfeeding makes sense and should optimally be conducted for at least the first year of a child’s life.

Three of the most important components to a healthy kids’ diet are calcium, iron and vitamin A. Parents should make sure that their children are receiving appropriate doses of all three of these on a daily basis. These form the cornerstone of good kids nutrition and should never be overlooked. Kids should be encouraged to drink low fat milk for calcium, fresh fruits and vegetables for vitamin A, and lean sources of protein for iron. Setting Limits To Achieve Good Kids Nutrition

As important as offering healthy food options for children is, setting appropriate limits is also a vital aspect of proper kids nutrition. Parents should only offer desserts, candy and other sweets as rare, special treats for their children. Fast food should similarly be offered only sparingly, as it is one of the biggest downfalls to proper kids nutrition. Sugary soda pops need to be limited as well, as these introduce a huge number of “empty calories” and provide no nutritional benefits whatsoever. By adhering to strict nutritional guidelines and only sparingly offering special treats, parents can provide the best possible kids nutrition and help their children develop healthy habits for life.
