Malignant Mesothelioma is a type of disease that involves the malignant or dangerous formation of cells in the lining of either the chest or the abdomen. Malignant Mesothelioma is a disease that involves malignant or cancerous cells being found in the pleural space, which is the thin layer of tissue lining the chest cavity as well as covering the lungs, as well as the peritoneum, which is the thin layer of tissue that lines the abdomen as well as that covers most of the organs that are found within the abdomen.

Being exposed to a chemical known as asbestos is capable of affecting the risk by which you can develop malignant Mesothelioma. Anything that increases your natural chances of developing a disease is known as a risk factor. Having a specific risk factor is not going to mean that you will automatically get cancer. What it does mean is that you are at a greater risk than the normal average person of developing the disease, and risk factors for Mesothelioma are no different. People who believe that thy may be at risk for developing malignant Mesothelioma or any other form of cancer for that matter should absolutely sit down and discuss this with their doctor for more information.

Many people who are battling malignant Mesothelioma have worked in a place or lived in a place where asbestos has been swallowed or inhaled. After the person has been exposed to the asbestos, it can typically take many years before the malignant Mesothelioma actually ever occurs. There are numerous other risk factors that are associated with malignant Mesothelioma including living with a person that works in the vicinity of asbestos or being exposed to certain other types of viruses.

There are a number of possible signs and symptoms of having malignant Mesothelioma including shortness of breath as well as experiencing pain beneath the rib cage. Sometimes this form of cancer is capable of causing fluid to collect in and around the lungs or in the abdominal cavity. These are symptoms that may be caused by the fluid or by Mesothelioma. There are numerous other conditions that are capable of causing similar symptoms. If any of the following problems occur, it would be wise for you to consult your physician: If you have trouble breathing normally, if you are experiencing pain beneath your rib cage, if you are experiencing pain or swelling inside your abdominal cavity, if you are experiencing lumps in your abdomen and if you are experiencing weight loss for no reason that you can think of.

There are a number of different tests that examine the insides of the abdomen and chest, and these tests are used to detect or otherwise diagnose the presence of malignant Mesothelioma within your body. Sometimes it can be hard to determine the differences between lung cancer and malignant mesothelioma, so further tests may be needed including chest x-rays and physical examinations and health histories to determine which cancer you have.
