One of the newest or least a new hot trend for pregnant women is painting their bump. Yep, that is correct, painting the big pregnant belly. The bigger the belly the bigger the canvas. Now I am not sure how I feel about this just yet. Yes, pregnancy is a beautiful thing, but I wasn’t so proud to show off my pregnant belly without a shirt. When I worked in the OB/GYN office I saw girls come in showing off their pregnant bellies, wearing a short shirt or a shirt that split. Although I know it was never something I would like to do, it was nice to see a pregnant woman totally comfortable in their new, bigger bodies.
I was watching a talk show the other day with pregnant women, one of which had her belly painted. She stated that although it wasn’t something she would have thought about doing, it was very relaxing and the baby started to kick and react to the paint brush moving along her tummy. Her painting was a very pretty flower-type design, but most anything can be painted.
Over Halloween women were seen painting their bellies to look like different things. Their big round bump was transformed to look like a pumpkin, a soccer ball, a face or whatever else they could come up with. Is it cool or creepy?
Another popular way of painting the belly is doing a henna drawing. Sometimes the drawings are adorned with crystals and rhinestones to bring the bling. If you are going to be a painted, this would be a little longer lasting, at least a few days compared to as soon as your shirt touches the paint.
I just can’t decide if I like it or not. I don’t think I would ever paint my belly, if I were to ever get pregnant again (because that WILL NOT happen….three kids is a more than enough for me). If you are comfortable with your bump, celebrate it. Paint it up, get some henna, do whatever makes you happy…it is your body, enjoy it.
