Valentine’s Day Food Your Kids Will Love

It’s been said that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach (worked for me!), but it’s a path we can take to our kids’ hearts, too. The menu is just a little different for kids. Whether you’re showing your love at breakfast or dinner, a snack or dessert, you’ll be able to let your kids taste the love.

Meals

Make heart-shaped pancakes by either drizzling the batter in a heart shape or using a heart-shaped pancake mold. Add raspberries for a splash of red.

Bake muffins in heart-shaped cupcake molds. Don’t have a special pan? No problem. Just place a small marble or a 1/2-inch ball of aluminum foil between the liner and one side of the batter well to create the top of the heart.

Use a heart cookie cutter to cut sandwiches into the shape of love.

Arrange pizza toppings into the shape of a heart or an “I love you” message.

Snacks and Desserts

For a simple snack trick, add red food coloring to your crispy rice treats while mixing them up. Of course, cut them into hearts for the ultimate in lovey-dovey goodness.

Roll red fruit leather from both sides to the middle. Pinch the bottom of the roll to a point and slice off quilled hearts.

Cut a Twinkie in half at a forty-five degree angle.  Flip one side over and rejoin the Twinkie, creating a heart shape. Cover with whipped cream and strawberries.

Make a heart-shaped cake by baking a square cake and a round cake with matching dimensions (like an eight-inch square pan and an eight-inch diameter round pan). Turn the square pan so that one point is at the top. Cut the round cake in half and place one half on each of the two top sides of the square.

Drinks

Make “Love Potion” by blending partially-thawed strawberries, raspberries, and white grape juice until it’s the consistency you want. Add more fruit to make it thicker, more juice to make it thinner.

Make a creamy red smoothie by blending a cup of apple juice, a quarter-cup of silken tofu, a cup of frozen strawberries, and a ripe banana until silky smooth. Tell the kids after they’ve slurped it all up that you just loved on their hearts a little with the tofu!

I cut all of my daughters sandwiches into hearts…I found a cutter at Walmart that cuts each sandwich into 2 hearts…..it’s wonderful…also you can use a cookie cutter…the metal ones that have a rubbery part on the top are normally just big enough for a sandwich.
