Kids love rainbows, and what a better time to allow children to create them than around St. Patrick’s Day?  There are lots of ways to create a rainbow using different items like crayons, markers and paint.  A great, inexpensive way to make rainbows that your children will love is using cereal, such as Froot Loops or like cereal.  These are perfect because they come in every color of a rainbow!

Here are some different ways to create a rainbow with your child’s favorite cereal:

To create a rainbow picture, simply glue Froot Loops in a rainbow shape.  Start in the middle, smallest area.  Layer Purple, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and then Red.  This makes an adorable rainbow although it can not be eaten due to the glue.

For an edible, wearable craft, use string or yarn and create a bracelet or necklace.  These are my kids favorite because they can wear them and eat as they play.  This picture shows two different types of rainbows.  The bracelet was created by stringing several of the same color in a rainbow pattern, 3 red, 3 orange, 3 yellow, 3 green, 3 blue and 3 purple.  The necklace was created by making a continuous rainbow, only using one of each color and continuing the pattern until the desired length.

Give the kids some cereal and let create their favorite design, it is lots of fun and a great snack.
