Handprint Shamrocks

By Amber Ortega on February 18th, 2009

Shamrocks are everywhere as it gets closer and closer to St. Patrick’s Day.  A fun project to do with your little one is make hand print shamrocks.  Handprint crafts are always my favorites, any project I can do to capture their cute little hand print is high on my priority list.

Let’s get started!

First gather your supplies:

  • Paper
  • Green Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Green Marker or Crayon
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Cute little boy or girl

Now you have your supplies, let’s get creating!

  1. Paint the palm and fingers of your little boy or girl.  My kids all love this, it tickles their little hands.  Make sure to cover it well, but not too much or you will have a mess all over the paper.

  3. Firmly press the painted hand onto the paper.  Think ahead on where you want your shamrock.  I placed my hand prints in a square-type shape, one facing each corner of the paper.

  5. Continue painting and pressing prints until you have four on your paper.

  7. Use your green marker or crayon to draw around the hand prints to create a shamrock shape.

  9. If you would like to add a little flare to your picture, add some glitter to the paper while the paint is still wet.  Just beware, glitter gets everywhere and you will find it for weeks to come!

If you don’t have any green paint, you can always trace around the hand or cut hands out of green construction paper.  Personally, I didn’t have any green paint, but I managed to find some yellow and blue, so I combined to make a perfect green color.  Have fun and get messy!
