There are more than one million children homeschooled in the United States. There are many people who are for homeschooling and many that are against it. I used to think that homeschooling was just a crazy idea, wondering how a child could actually learn at home. After my second child was born and it was getting closer to my oldest beginning school, I began to have anxiety about him being in school, away from me. I began to look into the concept a little more and met a lot of homeschooling families, this totally changed my mind. I learned that not all families can be successful at homeschooling, but it works well for others. Opponents to the idea feel that children lose their ability to interact with children their age and lack the social skills of those in a school environment. Homeschooling has gained popularity, giving families the ability to come together and create groups of families that all homeschool. These groups are able to get together and allow their children to interact and do things together.

The mothers in this video have opposite views on the subject. One mother is homeschooling her children while another feels the idea is a little out there and not something she could ever do. Some of the opponents are more afraid of the idea than actually against it. This is a totally different concept for some people and hard to understand. Most families have children that grow up and attend a school, be it public or private. This is just how it has always been, you turn five and start Kindergarten. Many people are scared of change and thus, against homeschooling.

What do you think about the idea? Would you ever homeschool your child? There are many pros and cons to the entire concept. Before making a decision on what you feel is best, it is good to research both sides and be informed.
