One the best baby products that I have ever purchased is the Bumbo Baby Seat. The Bumbo was designed with your baby’s behind in mind. It is specially molded to fit the shape of a baby’s butt and legs. The material is very soft and comfy. Think of it as memory foam for your baby’s bottom. It is made from a low-density foam material so it is light-weight and portable. It has a somewhat slick outer skin that makes most liquids and other substances wipe right off. And it is completely non-toxic.
My favorite thing about the bumbo was that it freed up my hands. It’s unique design allows a baby as young as three months old to sit up independently. If your baby can hold their head up then they can sit up in a Bumbo. And unlike a baby swing or chair, your baby sits straight up rather than on an incline. This made a huge difference for my son because he was able to look around the room. He was never happy to be reclined. The Bumbo enabled him to feel included in our family’s interaction. I think it also helped him to sit up on his own sooner because it gave the necessary muscles some practice. The Bumbo is ideal to take to the beach, the park or a friend or relative’s house. And it is great for meal time because the upright seating position aids in digestion.
The box says that you can use your Bumbo from 3-14 months. However, after my son learned to crawl at about six months, he was pretty much done with it. Everytime I would put him in there, he would do a sort of thrusting twist until he freed his legs. So I spent about $40 for a solid three months of use. To me it was well worth it. Especially since I was able to pass it on to a friend. One important guideline to note is that you should always use the Bumbo at ground level. Do not place it on a chair, countertop or any other elevated surface because your baby may learn the twist that my son did and fall out. Also, the company warns not to use it as a bath seat for the same reason.
