Kids Best Friend: The Border Collie

By Yosef Solomon on March 12th, 2009

The Border Collie is often referred to as the most intelligent dog in the world. They also make great family pets and are a joy with the kids. Border Collies were originally bred as sheep herders and farm dogs, but in time became more and more popular amongst families.

There country of origin is Scotland and they are often covered in black and white fur. The life span of a Border Collie has been estimated at around 12 human years. Although that may not sound very long, you’d be surprised how much they learn in that time. Actually just a few days ago, a stray Border Collie from Texas found a piece of a Metorite and left it on someone’s front porch. This was the first time in history that an animal discovered a Metorite and knew to leave it where a human could find it.

If your looking for that quintessential family dog, I would definitely suggest the Border Collie. They only get better with time and I’m sure they’ll be a hit with the little ones. You can definitely guarantee that these are the safest and smartest dogs around.

Border Collie’s are great. Just make sure they’re not chasing cars. Very dangerous.

I agree Border Collies are the smartest and they are great with kids if they are trained not to try to herd the kids. If you are up for training a BC would be a great family member. I have many BC’s and 3 young kids and although my house is always non stop it is GREAT!!
