Taking a day trip with your kids is one of the most rewarding things you can do.  It gets them out of the house, it allows them to see the world around them and it encourages them to explore new interests.   I like to take my boys somewhere different at least 2-3 times a month.  If you are not sure where to begin, don’t worry.  Here are some tips to help you find great places for your kids to learn and explore.

First, you can start with some well known places.  Visit  local aquariums, museums, landmarks, etc.  Check their websites before you go.  Most places have an admission free or discounted day each month.  You can also find out when they have different exhibits open and other useful tips to help plan your day.  If you are a Bank of America cardholder, there is a great program called “Museums On Us”.  Simply present your B of A card at a participating attraction during the first weekend of each month and you will receive free admission for two people.  Go to  http://promotions.bankofamerica.com/museums/ to find participating locations near you.

Once you have exhausted these fun places, it may be time to expand your horizons.  One of my favorite websites is www.gocitykids.com.  It has a variety of activities for most major cities on any given day.  Their categories include exhibits, fairs and festivals, farmers’ markets, nature and outdoors, shows, special events and much more.

Whether you are collecting seashells and learning about ocean life or exploring the founding culture of your city, a day trip is guaranteed to provide a fun adventure with lasting memories for everyone in your family.

i don't have the time to do this 2-3 times a month, but i try to get out and about with my kids as often as i can, and i agree - exploring new places with your kids is a great activity for everyone involved.
