One of toddlers most beloved characters,’Dora the Explorer’ from Nick Jr is about to get a make-over. It looks like Dora is growing up, losing her baby fat and looking more like a ‘tween. Dora will now be a 10-year-old girl, dropping her long-time pals, Swiper, Boots and Map. Although the Dora we all know and love will still be around, this will be another version, to help keep girls interested in the character as they begin school and grow up.
The new version will come with an interactive doll. This doll will attach to the computer via USB and allow you to update your dolls looks through the computer. Dora is said to have moved to New York, giving her a new place to find adventure.
When Mattel released a statement that a new version would be released, only a silhouette was released. It was very hard to tell exactly what the new Dora would be wearing. It seemed that she was wearing a tiny dress, which would show off way too much skin for a normal 10-year-old. When the actual image was released, I think everyone was happy with the outcome. The older Dora is sporting a cute tunic and leggings, along with grown-out flowing hair.
There was a lot of controversy when talks of making Dora grow up was released. With the unflattering silhouette that was released, many believed that Dora would be looking more like a street walker than the cute little girl we all loved. After the new image was released, I think more parents will be happy to see the outcome instead of the outrage that was originally felt. Seeing the cute new Dora, I would be much happier seeing my almost 6-year-old playing with a Dora doll than the Bratz, Hannah Montana or High School musical that are available now.
