Natural Organic Solutions for Diaper Rash

Taking my kids to the store always proves to be an adventure. My four year old whines for toys and candy while my two year old tries to shimmy out of the cart seat straps. Consequently, I makes very few trips out during the week. This is one reason why I am so fond of natural home remedies. If a ailment comes up, I like to be able to reach into the kitchen cabinet rather than bolt out the front door. One ailment that makes a frequent appearance at our house is diaper rash. I do have a cream called Triple Paste that I absolutely love. But so often it either empty or no where to be found when I need it. In these situations I have a few natural solutions that I like to use.
- Give older infants and toddler 2-3 ounces of cranberry juice. This will leave an acid residue in the urine that will help lower the pH and reduce irritation.
- Put an unused bag of chamomile tea in the diaper at each diaper change. When combined with their urine, the soothing herbs will create a chemical that heals rashes in one day or less.
- Wash your baby’s bottom with warm water and dry it very well. Then apply a small amount of vegetable oil directly to the rash. This is really effective!
- Spread a little bit of liquid antacid onto the diaper before putting it on your baby.
- For a soothing bath, sprinkle the water with baking soda.
