My April Fool’s Day repatoire is pretty limited. I will call my Mom and tell her I won the lottery or call my husband and tell him I have a flat tire. None of it is very original or effective. So I decided to change it up and hunt down some great pranks this year. I didn’t want anything too mean, because that’s not my style. Here are a few good humored ideas to try on your family and friends.
In The Morning
- Set Your Clocks Forward- Pretend it is daylight savings again. Set all of the clocks in the house, including alarm clocks, forward. Your family won’t realize the real time until they get in the car or look at their cell phone. You don’t have to go for a full hour, unless you want a very cranky household. Going forward 15-30 minutes should do the trick. And it may even get your teenagers out the door on time!
- Unidentified Object- Insert a raisin in the opening of a tube of toothpaste. When your unsuspecting family member goes to brush their teeth, they will be shocked by what comes out on their toothbrush.
- Funny Colored Milk- Drop several drops of food coloring into your milk carton for a fun surprise. I prefer blue because it looks pretty. If you are going for the gross out factor, try yellow or green to get a spoiled look. Just make sure you use the smaller opaque cartons. The big see through gallon container won’t be as effective.

During The Day
- Mixed Message- Change the outgoing message on your answering machine to go something like this. “Hello? [pause] Hello? [pause] Is anyone there? [pause] April Fools’!”
- Mean Money- Tape a dollar or a quarter to the floor in a high-traffic area, and watch the parade of people bend down and unsuccessfully try to pick it up.

At Night
- Swap Dinner And Dessert- Make a dinner that looks like dessert and a dessert that looks like dinner. Be Sure to serve the dinner-looking dessert first. When your family digs in their tastebuds will be in for a sweet surprise. Here are some great swap ideas. http://allrecipes.com/HowTo/April-Fools-Day-Dinner/Detail.aspx
- Uninviting Bed- Short-sheet a bed by tucking in both ends of the top sheet at the head of the bed. When someone crawls in, their feet will stop short.
