Save Money By Using Vinegar

Vinegar has so many uses around the house.  It is excellent for cleaning and is so much cheaper than commercial cleansers.  I have used it for so many different uses around the house.  My mom recently gave me a book with uses for vinegar, and it reminded me of how much money I was saving when I primarily used vinegar.  You can purchase a huge bottle of vinegar for less than $2 and it works for so many different things.

Here are some of my ideas:

  • Clean your microwave by placing a bowl of water with 1/4 cup vinegar.  Allow the water to boil for about a minute or so.  Your microwave will smell fresh and any caked on food will easily wipe away.
  • Clean your drain clear by pouring 1/2 cup baking soda, followed by 1/2 cup vinegar.  Allow to bubble and then run hot water after about 5 minutes.
  • Disinfect baby toys by mixing hot water, vinegar and soap.  Rinse them well after washing them down.  This will get rid of all bacteria.
  • Add 1 cup to rise water for the laundry that was forgotten in the washer.  This will remove all of the dirty, moldy smell.
  • If you add 1/4 cup vinegar to the soap with each laundry load, your colors will be brighter, whites whiter and it will act as a fabric softener.  This has worked wonders for my children who are allergic to fabric softeners.
  • Clean any surface by rubbing baking soda then spritzing with straight vinegar.  This will bubble up and remove all of the germs and grime.
  • After washing the floors, rinse with clear water mixed with a cup of vinegar.  This will remove any soap scum and leave floors shiny.

Then when you’re all done, add a little oil & bread with your vinegar for the perfect mommy snack!

I have granite counter tops and the only cleaner that I’ve found that looks “safe” for them is one with vinegar in it (by Lysol I think). Would just straight vinegar work just as well since I’m about to run out of it?
