Bonnie - gardening is so awesome with kids!

I have got to tell you our gardening story - I think it's so cute when I think back.

My Mom would have us kids help in the garden, planting and weeding and such every year. Because she usually had a huge garden AND my parents thought it was good disciplin - we, however, didn't always love it. Then one year us kids discovered the yummy'ness of shucking green peas right off the vine and gobbling them up - they are so juicy and sweet on a hot day - we loved them. So my Mom began to call them "sneakin' peas" - because as we worked in the garden with her or as we played in the yard, we would "sneak" the peas - either munching on them while in the garden or stuffing our pockets with them to eat through the day. Mom would even make a little game of it - sometimes walking out of the garden saying - so we could hear "hmmmm...I wonder whats happening to all of my peas, do I have rabbits in my garden....hmmm....? Us kids would laugh and giggle and then immediatly run to sneak more peas - so mom could see us, then mom would say "hey....wait a minute, you better not eat all my peas!" Of course she pretended to be "angry" about the pea eating, she's make a funny face...we giggled and it just made it that much more fun to "sneak" the peas. By the end summer there were never any peas left to freeze or can because we had snuck them all! And every year after that for many years we would always ask my mom "are we going to plant "sneakin' peas" again this year?? And of course the answer was always yes! It always got us kids in the garden and we had fun while we learned life's lessons!.
