handipoint-1

I ran across Handipoints in a search to find a better way to track my kids chores and responsibilities.  I have tried chore charts with stickers, chore wheels and everything seems to work for a few weeks then fizzles out.  I am hoping using this fun interactive website will help keep the kids on track.  So what’s the big deal with Handipoints and what makes it so unique?

First off, the site is FREE!  Yep, my favorite things are free.  Through this website you can create an account and create chore charts for your children.  As chores are completed and marked on the website, children earn rewards called Handipoints.  Parents are then able to go online and grade how well the chore was done.  From their grades of the chores, children can earn bonus points.  These bonus points can be used in an online virtual world to purchase clothing and accessories.  Goals can be set up as well, allowing children to work towards something they really want.

Stats:

Website: Handipoints

Cost: FREE!

What others are saying about Handipoints:

“Setting up a system for kids to redeem points for physical goods (or money) was easy enough; all they had to do was hook up Amazon’s APIs and create a custom storefront. But a significant effort has gone into creating an entirely new and appealing virtual world, one that’s replete with different settings, activities, items, and other users.” by TechCrunch.

“Step right up and rally round the computer because HANDIPOINTS.COM may be just the tool your family needs to organize, motivate, and get things done. After task charts are designed and goals are set online, kids input their progress and receive two kinds of points: Handipoints and Bonus Points. Handipoints can be used to buy things in the real world in the form of an allowance, privileges, etc. Bonus Points are used in the virtual world HandiLand to buy virtual stuff such as clothes, furniture, or backgrounds for avatars. Kids can chat safely with preset dialog and funny animations. The site also features a blog for parents and a Cool Cats Magazine for kids.” by Common Sense Media.

As a kid my mom used to rate us on our summer chores. We could get up to four stars per chore and each star we got added up to a quarter that could be used for that summer's vacation. As a kid I loved the concept and would do my best to get 4-stars every day on every chore. This worked great until I was old enough to start babysitting.
