At our house, egg hunting is always a favorite on Easter Day. My kids enjoy finding the cascarones or confetti eggs that are hidden amongst the candy filled eggs.
Cascarones are fun because you can walk up and surprise someone by smashing an egg on their head and covering them in confetti. I think cascarones are more popular with the kids than any other hidden treasures because they have so much fun smashing them on other family members. They are sold in stores, but if you start saving egg shells early, you can have a TON done by Easter.
Here is all you need to make your own cascarones.
- Eggs
- Sharp needle or small Phillips screwdriver
- Tissue paper
- Glue
- Confetti (store bought or made)

1. Prepare eggs by carefully poking a hole in one end of the egg. Make the hole just large enough to fit your confetti in.
2. Flip the egg over and put a very small hole in other side of the egg.
3. Gently blow air through the smaller hole to clear out the egg. This is great if your kids like omelets or scrambled eggs! Rinse the egg shell with water and allow to fully dry.

4. Carefully fill the egg with confetti. I bought a bag of confetti, but it can be easily made by cutting colored paper or punching holes in paper.

5. Tear a small piece of tissue paper just large enough to cover the hole on your egg. Cover the tissue with a small amount of glue.
6. Apply the tissue paper to the egg hole to keep the confetti inside. Store your completed eggs in egg cartons until your ready to use them.
7. Find an unsuspecting person and SMASH it on them!
