menus4moms-1

For quite some time now I have been following a dinner menu through the website Menus4Moms.  Each week I receive and email with a dinner menu for the following week, complete with recipes and shopping list.  So I already know what my family is going to eat and what I need to get!  It is so easy!

Before I was using the menus, I went to the store and spent way too much on food for the week.  I didn’t know how to make a menu that would allow me to use larger portions of meat for more than one meal.  I never had even thought about it.  I started following the menus about 2 years ago and I went from spending at least $150 a week on groceries to spending about $100 every two weeks.  This feeds a family of five for dinner every day during the week and normally left overs for lunch.

In addition to just giving you menus and grocery lists, the website shows you how to stock your freezer and pantry.  Something I always do now that I didn’t even think of before is buying large bags of onions, chopping the onion as you would for a recipe and then freezing a large bag full.  Now I can buy the large bags when they are on sale and freeze them, where as before I was buying single onions when I needed them and spending three to four times as much.  Think about how much time you spend defrosting and browning hamburger meat.  When you buy the meat and know what you are going to cook with it, you are able to brown all meat at one time and freeze the cooked meat.  This saves me so much time during the week when the kids have school and practice and are always on the run.  The cooked hamburger defrosts quickly and just needs to be warmed up to be used in a recipe.

I highly suggest taking a look through the site and getting some ideas, even if you don’t use the menus.  There are some very good recipes on there, try the Chicken and Dumplings or Slow Cooker Lemon Pork Chops!  YUM!

Check it out for youself at Menus4Moms.
