Save Something from the Dump, FREEcycle it!

freecycle-1

I have always hated throwing things away that I knew someone else could use, or seeing a big pile of furniture being picked up by the garbage truck because someone simply remodeled.  I was raised that we don’t waste things and if someone else can use it, you give it to them, simple as that.  But is it really that simple?  Who do you give it to?  How do you know where to take it.  I found a solution, it is called Freecycle.  Yep, FREEcycle.

This is a wonderful site, you simply log onto Freecycle.org and find your local group.  There are hundreds of groups all over the United States.  Simply find the group closest to you and join.  You will get emails from people in your area that have things they no longer need.  You will be amazed at what people would normally just throw away, but are willing to give to you if you come and pick it up.  I have gotten a 32″ television that worked perfectly, a surround sound system, set of 12 Fiestaware cups and saucers in like-new condition, Dora the Explorer Pirate Ship playhouse and most of my kids clothing.  Yep, I said their clothes.  I know so many people that buy clothes off eBay, but I get them for free!  It’s so nice to get a full wardrobe at one time and for nothing but a little gas.  Just today I went and picked up five trash bags full of clothing in my daughters size and a little larger.  These clothes weren’t stained or tore at all.  They were name brand in excellent condition.  So for the next year or so, I have a lot of GAP, Old Navy and The Children’s Place clothing to outfit my daughter in.

Remember that Freecycle is not just about getting things, but giving as well.  While some people give and never receive anythings, others try to be fair and give as often as they receive.  It also feels good to get some clutter out of your house and give it to someone that can really use it.
