Tiffany Toribio Suffocates Child….Twice!
On Friday, May 15, 2009 a woman had taken her son to play at the neighborhood park. They saw a shoe in the ground and soon found out it was attached to a body. After contacting police, the body was dug up from under the playground set. It was the body of a 3 year old boy who remained unidentified for almost a full week. His body had been exposed to extreme heat and was not able to be shown on television. After a sketch had been released, calls began to come in regarding the boy.
On Wednesday, May 20, 2009 Tiffany Toribio, 23, was arrested after family members had contacted officials because she had been missing with her son. They searched many homes she had been staying in and found that just days before the boy had been killed she was staying in a home not far from his park. They finally found her and she admitted to killing her son.
Toribio stated that she did not want her son to grow up without anyone loving him like she did. She suffocated him, then had second thoughts about it, performed CPR and revived him. After he was breathing again, she realized that she did want to go through with her original plan and suffocated him once again. She then buried him under the play set at the park.
Toribio is now being held at the Bernalillo County Detention Center and is facing charges including first-degree murder and abuse of a child under 12 that caused death. She has tried to commit suicide since being arrested and is being watched closely.
Being a mother, I could not imagine suffocating my child, much less doing it TWICE! This sickens me and makes me very upset. This poor innocent child was killed by his own mother. Imagine if you took your child to the park to play and a body was discovered under the sand you were just playing and digging in. This would affect you for a long time. I am glad they have finally found who was responsible, but sad that it happened in the first place.
This is so sad! It’s been reported that TIffany was kicked out of her mother’s house early May because of the way Tiffany treated her child. I don’t understand why Tiffany’s mother would throw her grandchild out of her house and let him go with his mother if she was so concerned that her grandchild was being abused. Another friend kicked them out of their apartment as well for the SAME reasons. Why didn’t the “grandmother” and “Friends” report Tiffany to Child Protective Services? Maybe if they had baby Tyrus would be alive today. The murder of this little angel is so senseless. Those of us in New Mexico have fallen in love with Baby Angel Tyrus. I know I will always carry him in my heart. What Tiffany did was horrendous, but perhaps she isn’t the only one to blame. Family and friends should have protected this baby boy a long time ago if they were aware that he was being abused. The whole thing makes me sick. I have a son the same age, and I could never imagine doing anything so horrific to a child. Rest in peace Baby Tyrus….we love you and know you are in GOD’S loving embrace.
how could a mother possibly do this? she should not have taken away the good life that his son that may have. each one of us has it’s own way of life. Instead of killing her son, she should have find ways to make his life more meaningful and wonderful. we can’t do anything because it’s done. Let’s just pray for the rightful judgment to this mother and hope that she will be enlightened that what she did is totally wrong.
