Pennsylvania Department of Labor is investigating ‘Jon and Kate Plus 8′ to ensure they are complying with child labor laws.  State law permits children who are at least seven to work in the entertainment industry, as long as a permit is obtained and certain rules are followed. The law also allows performers younger than seven to have “temporary employment … in the production of a motion picture.”

The controversy began after Kate’s brother and sister-in-law made accusations that the Gosselins are exploiting the children for financial gain.  During an interview with ‘The Early Show’, sister-in-law Jodi Kreider stated, “Unfortunately, I think it has come down to all about the ratings, and no one is looking at these children as what they are going through and the life consequences they are going to have as they get older.” Although it has not been released as to who or when the complaint was filed, this interview did not help matters any, I’m sure!

Could this be the end of ‘Jon and Kate Plus 8′?  Could they be found breaking child labor laws by having cameras follow them around?  The cameras follow the family around year-round and at least three to four days per week.  How would Jon and Kate have the money to raise these children without the tens of thousands of dollars per episode?  How could they afford their $1.1 million home they just moved into?

Is it right for these children to have all of their lives captured on film?  It is right for them to have every family outing and important day in their lives on film for the world to watch?  I must admit I have watched the show many times, and I enjoy the cute kids and just want to squeeze Aaden.  I have asked myself many times if they should be followed like that.  Would I want to know that my potty training had been broadcast to the entire world?  I think not.  It is embarassing enough that my Grandma had a picture of me sitting on the potty in her house and showed all my boyfriends growing up.  Overall I think the idea is wonderful and I have gotten some good ideas to help my family organize, but being filmed day in and out is a little much.
