Designated parent “date nights” are a must in any happy family. Some sort of husband/wife interaction beyond, “Your turn,” at the next poopy diaper can benefit both kids and parents alike.
But for your first night out in six months, you may not want to pay $17 to sit in a dark theater NOT talking to your spouse and pretending to enjoy hour two of Star Trek.
One great date night option is the “at home date.” Ship Spock Jr. off to Grandma’s for a few hours, pick up a pizza, or better yet, hit the grocery store and get in the kitchen. Cooking with your spouse can be a bonding experience: after all you are creating something that you won’t wait nine months to enjoy and hopefully won’t keep you up all night. If you aren’t blessed in the kitchen, at least pick up some chocolate fondue and get dipping, preferrably strawberries, but hey, it’s your call.
Another great date idea is to hit the gym together. You don’t have to be Kobe to enjoy a pick up game of one-on-one, or even some side by side ellipticizing. After your sweaty session, you can utilize the gym hot tub or even get a couple’s massage.
The most important part of date night, though, is to do something you and your spouse enjoyed doing together before you were “Mom” and “Dad,” and just maybe that thing that earned you those labels to begin with.
