Undeclared Sulfites were found in Nirav Golden Raisins and are currently being recalled by the FDA. Distributed in the following states from January to June residents in Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio and Tennessee should be aware that, if allergic, these raisins can be harmful. As of press time, no illness or deaths have been reported. Consumption of Sulfites is often ok, but for those that are allergic, it could be fatal. Often found in food, drinks and medication, Sulfites are meant to preserve flavor and color.
The FDA has singled out Indian Groceries & Spices, in Skokie, IL, as the main exporter of Nirav Golden Raisins. I wouldn’t worry too much about this recall, but just make sure your young know about dangers of these raisins. Especially since its difficult to determine whether they’re allergic or not.
