14 Year-Old Gerrit Blank might be the luckiest unlucky kid in the world after surviving a 30,000 MPH meteorite that struck him on his way to school. The pea-sized meteorite first hit Blank in his hand and then bounced onto the concrete, causing a foot wide gap in the road.
The chances of a person getting struck by a meteorite is one in 1 million. Thankfully Blank suffered no major injuries besides a 3 inch scar on his hand. “At first I just saw a large ball of light, and then I suddenly felt a pain in my hand. Then a split second after that there was an enormous bang like a crash of thunder” Blank explained.
These types of accidents are so uncommon that there is really no way to prepare for them. One good thing you can take away from this incident is a cool nickname: Meteorite Boy.
