What mom hasn’t found herself with a few sweet smelling, cheetah-like, fruit fly swarming friends in her fruit bowl, and neither the time nor desire to make yet another loaf of banana bread?
Here are a few of my favorite things to do with bananas that, like Janice Dickinson, are past their prime:
- Freeze ‘em! Peel your bananas, slice them in thirds and throw them in a Ziploc bag. Frozen bananas can be thrown into smoothies or blended with the milk and nut butter of your choice to make “ice cream.”
- Melt ‘em! Peel the bananas, throw them into a microwave-safe dish, and nuke them for a minute or more, until the bananas melt into a caramel-like sauce. Stir this sauce into oatmeal or yogurt, or pour it on top of pancakes or waffles.
- Skewer ‘em! Stick skewers into the peeled fruit and freeze them for a couple hours before dipping them in chocolate or smearing them with peanut butter and rolling them in granola or chopped nuts.
And if worse comes to worse, you can always grab a shovel and bury them in your backyard, preferably in the middle of the night. It may or may not help out your plants, but it will keep your neighbors guessing.
