Jon And Kate Announcement Plays Audience Like An Instrument

Good ol’ Jon and Kate. At this point, it’s a fait accompli to say that everyone’s hanging on their every move, even those of us who should know better. I don’t even watch their show and I’m writing about them. Case in point: J&K have announced an announcement. This upcoming Monday’s episode will feature some sort of life-altering statement that will ” … affect every member of our family, ones that we hope will bring each of us some peace.”

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what it won’t do.

It won’t bring peace to either Jon or Kate, because even if the announcement is that they’re divorcing, the network will find a way to make that feed into the show; if the announcement is that they’re going to stop doing the show, they’ll still be hounded for the rest of their lives, because that’s the way the media works.

It won’t bring peace to their children for the exact same reasons. Worse, actually, if the couple does divorce. Ever wonder what the effects of constant media intrusion would be on the lives of young children after their parents separate? We’ll soon find out!

And finally, it won’t bring peace to the show’s thousands of fans, who crave the drama as part of their weekly tv diet. Peace is not what the fans want. If they did, they wouldn’t watch the show in the first place.

The best part of the referring article is this: ” … is it just another shameless ploy to boost ratings and sucker a few more unsuspecting people into watching the show?” Shameless, yes. Unsuspecting? Who could possibly be unsuspecting of anything on television at this point? I feel dirty just writing about this stuff. But, like a horrific car accident, I fear to look, yet I cannot turn away.
