An infant, less than a day old, was found in a shoe box in the lobby of a Long Island New York apartment building. A resident in the building heard noises coming from the box as they walked through lobby. After deciding to open it up, they found a baby wrapped up in a blanket.
Wearing nothing but a onesie and with the umbilical cord still attached, authorities say that the infant is in healthy condition. Police are currently in pursuit of the mother and plan on pressing child abandonment charges once found.
These types of incidents are so unfortunate and should never occur. New mothers should know that hospitals are made to deal with these types of circumstances. If one is unfit or unable to take care of their child, there are plenty of options to consider besides abandonment. It is a miracle that this child is safe and healthy right now.
