Wolverine Electronic Claws Product Review

By Amber Ortega on July 1st, 2009

x-men-1

Walking around the toy section of Wal-Mart last night I saw the Wolverine Electronic Claws proudly displayed at the end of the aisle. I had two immediate reactions. First – as a child would think – “Wow, how cool is that? I love Wolverine!” And then second, as I – a mother – would think, “Why would you buy your child a weapon like THAT?”

Now my children can turn anything into a weapon and before we buy toys we have to look at it and see how that toy could hurt their siblings. We have no bats, golf clubs, swords or really anything with a long handle for our children to play with when they are not in our immediate supervision. We learned the hard way that our children turn these types of toys into a weapon and someone will be crying within moments of play.

These claws look like they could be a lot of fun and my husband tried to fight me on my negative thoughts. He told me that the claws were retractable and it wasn’t as if the kids could stab each other. So I politely showed him how I pictured our children slamming the huge claws across the top of their heads. He quickly agreed with my thoughts, but still thought they looked like fun.

I agree they look like fun, but co-pays are too expensive and I don’t want a crying, bleeding child.

What others are saying about Wolverine Electronic Claws:

“Born with the mutant ability to extend claws from his wrists, Wolverine is made for battle. Now, you can be, too! Slip on the electronic glove and charge into action like the world’s ultimate warrior! Simply flick your wrist and watch the claws extend and make cool electronic sounds too!” by Amazon.com

“The Wolverine Electronic Battle Claw, $20, does get a few things right. As said above, the “blades” are retractable. And slashing produces a surely craptastic series of sound effects necessary in any child’s toy.” by Gizmodo.

I don’t know about bleeding heads, but those kind of toys do seem to encourage the wrong kind of habits. Maybe get him a book instead! Or some crayons and a coloring book.
