Do Expensive Diapers Work Better?

Walking down the diaper aisle at any store can make your head spin.  Which do you buy?  Pampers or Huggies?  The store brand are cheaper, but do they work?  What if I buy some and they cause my little one to get a rash?  What makes these diapers different?

I have learned a lot since having three children.  When my first was born, we were Pampers all the way.  Nothing touched my son except Pampers diapers.  They always worked great and I always got coupons in the mail.  When my daughter was born, we decided to try some cheaper diapers because two kids are so much more expensive.  We went with Luvs.  They also worked great, actually just as good as the Pampers.  So I began to think to myself, why did I spend all that extra on Pampers for my son when I could have gone with the less expensive Luvs and saved myself some money.  Once my third child was born, I just couldn’t afford the more expensive diapers.  We still went with Luvs, until my parents kept him overnight and needed some diapers.  They bought the store brand, heaven forbid!  I thought they were crazy and in my mind, I knew he would leak all of the place.  Guess what?  No leaks, no rash.  They held up just as good as any other diaper!

What have I been doing all these years? It took me three children to learn that expensive is not always better.  The two most expensive brands are normally Huggies and Pampers.  If you put my son in a Huggies diaper he will leak all over the place!  If I put him in a Target store brand diaper he will be fine in the morning.   Huggies don’t even work during the day, I couldn’t imagine leaving him in one over night!

So why spend $13 on a small package of Huggies diapers when you could walk over a few feet and get a big box of over 100 Target brand diapers for the same price?  Do these diapers work on all kids?  Probably not.  Every child’s needs are different.  Some people love Huggies diapers, but I might as well leave my child without anything on because they don’t work well for him.

My recommendation is try a small package of ANY type of diaper before you buy the economy size.  Don’t discriminate on the store brand just because their package is different and they don’t have Dora the Explorer or Spiderman pictures on them.  A diaper works just as well if it doesn’t have a fancy picture on it.
