chinese-babiesIn an attempt to erase their once “one child policy” in China, the government is now encouraging Chinese families to have a second child. The law that had been in place for 30 years is now being reversed and allowing for couples with no siblings on both sides to have a second child.

The current population of China is 1.3 Billion, but officials are afraid that the younger generation won’t be enough to take care of the current aging generation. Predictions show that China’s elderly population will grow 34% by 2020.

In rural areas, families were allowed two children if the first was a girl. This law will be up for debate after this recent reversal.

As large as China is, I don’t think they will ever be in shortage of people. However, I do like this new law and am interested to see how their population climbs.
