Sometimes when you’re stuck at the office, the vending machine is your only option when hunger strikes. Instead of saying ”forget it” and buying some M&Ms and a can of Mountain Dew, believe it or not, there are actually some not-that-bad-for-you-possibly-even-healthy choices you can grab instead.
David’s Original Sunflower Seeds: The protein and fiber in these little guys will keep you full till dinner. 160 calories, 7 grams protein, 3 grams fiber
Nature Valley Oats and Honey Granola Bars: The portion size is big (both bars), and the sweetness and crunch is great to cure any craving. 180 calories; 2 grams fiber
Lays Baked Chips: Most baked chips have no saturated fat and are great for a salty craving with a satisfying crunch. 130 calories; 2 grams of fiber
Rold Gold Pretzels: Crunchy, salty and just plain delicious! 160 calories; 1 gram fiber
Planter’s Peanuts: The fat in peanuts is heart healthy and the fiber and protein will keep you satisfied. 330 calories; 29 grams fat; 15 grams protein
Special Dark Chocolate Hershey bar: Dark chocolate has been proven to have health benefits and even lower cholesterol (in moderation, of course.) 180 calories, 3 grams fiber
These are relatively healthy choices. These are better options than Snicker’s and Milky Ways and Doritos, but don’t let it become an ongoing habit. Even though these snacks can be better options in terms of calories or fat, they still are devoid of a lot of nutrients, like vitamins and minerals. Your best bet is to stock your purse, car, or desk with healthy snacks like whole grain cereals, fat free yogurt, fruit and veggies, or you can always flirt with the mail boy to go fetch you something healthy.
