Every parent knows the scenario: you were out running around all day and between school, the dry cleaners, football practice, ballet class and/or violin lessons, you haven’t given a thought to what to make for dinner. Sure, you could always do the drive of shame to the Golden Arches, or you could ask yourself WWJD (What Would Jared Do?) and end up at Subway. But just because you are “eating fresh” doesn’t mean you are eating healthy. Here are the best and worst picks for you and your family at Subway:
Worst: 6 inch Chicken Bacon Ranch Sandwich

As a general rule anything with the words “bacon” and “ranch” in its title is probably a poor choice. This sandwich packs a whopping 580 calories and 30 grams of fat, with 10 of those grams being saturated fat. If you were to couple this sandwich with a bag of Doritos (250 calories) and a regular Coke, your meal would come in at over 1100 calories. And you skipped the Big Mac why exactly?
Best: 6 inch Turkey Breast (hold the mayo and cheese)

At 280 calories and 3.5 grams of fat, this is a far superior choice. If your kids would gladly skip the meat for the cheese, you could also order the Veggie Delight WITH cheese for 280 calories and 6 grams of fat. Either one of these sandwiches could pair with a bag of Baked Lays, or better yet, some apple slices, and still come in at a under 500 calorie meal. Now THAT’S a happy meal and a happy mom.
