MileyPhotoshop

I have a love/hate relationship with Miss Miley Cyrus.

I hate that I love her so much. I don’t even know why I do: her voice is grating, she has a slight speech impediment that drives me nuts, and she’s a product of Disney in every sense of the word, but yet I find her entertaining.

Chalk it up to guilty pleasure, I suppose.

For someone that makes millions a day year, has a brand new clothing line, a hit movie, TV show, and CD, all at the same time, she’s seems fairly down to earth and well adjusted.  I also like her “wild” streak. (Man, I think of the stuff I did when I was 16, and I could blow her little photo scandal and stripper pole incident out of the water.)

Miley is now, in addition to everything else, is going to take over your children’s closet.  She has teamed up with BCBG designer Max Azria to release a clothing line available at Walmart.  Miley took to her official twitpic page to show some of the ads.

With her picture of my favorite piece out of the bunch, this skirt, Miley stated:

“Just F.Y.I my legs DO NOT look like this in real life. That’s the magic of a computer my friends. Just thought I would be honest.”

THANK YOU, Miley.

Most of Miss Miley’s fans are tween girls. While we women are constantly bombarded with the debate over airbrushing and unrealistic body expectations in the media, Miley’s fan base is out of the loop.  They see the images debated over, but aren’t in on the discussions of how to view them with a discerning eye.  They don’t watch the news or read Deceiver.  They see the pictures on the internet and in the magazines, but they don’t hear the controversy.

Miley has been scrutinized in the past for her weight, and having “cankles” (how does a 16 year old have cankles?) and has always address it with a sense of humor and a good attitude.

This time, Miley brought it up first.  The picture isn’t even that ridiculously photoshopped, a slimming in the thigh area and the smoothed, waxy completion of a plastic doll, but its enough of a deviation from the truth that Miley felt the need to clear the air.  Whether it was to avoid scrutiny, or to not mislead her young fans, I don’t know, but her honesty and her charmingly flippant attitude by addressing it in passing on Twitter is refreshing.

If one little girl stared at that picture and sighed in relief that the perfect, tween queen Miley Cyrus isn’t so perfect after all, and isn’t scared to admit it, than Miley deserves a little good press. Just for today.
