Famed model Ali Landry hosts a web-only Yahoo! show called “Spotlight to Nightlight”, in which she interviews celebrity parents about various parenting concerns. Trite as it may be to say it, it’s a great series that really shows that our favorite celebs really are “just like us”.
One of the latest interviews features former teen star Mayim Bialik, who you may remember as “Blossom,” from the series of the same name. She’s all grown up now and raising two boys, and in a style that breaks with what many think of as traditional childrearing methods.
For instance, she practices “attachment parenting,” which is by no means a new practice but is still somewhat controversial among some parents. But moreover, she eschews standard potty training techniques and uses something called “elimination communication”, in which the parents pay close attention to their child’s cues to know when they need to evacuate, thus obviating the need for diapers.
What I appreciate most about this interview is Bialik’s acknowledgment that while she and her husband practice these unorthodox methods, there’s definitely no “right” way to parent. Everyone should do their own research to find what works best for them, and during that search, one should keep an open mind and try not to automatically reject what seems strange or new outright.
Watch for future episodes of “Spotlight to Nightlight” to keep up with celebrity parenting.

Hi Akela, It is great to see some discussion of this topic, though I think of attachment parenting (merely a term coined by Dr Sears to describe the parenting style of many more natural cultures) as the traditional parenting style! You mention Elimination Communication, which is obviously new to you - thanks for not bagging the concept outright! It is a fun activity to fold into one's daily activities with baby, and yes, they do wear diapers between potty visits, for as long as you wish them to, or they need to. Also called 'EC' or "Infant Potty Training", it is a cumbersome term to be sure for a practice as old as mothers and still the norm in many countries on earth, and not (as I can see replies coming) just as they can't afford dispopsable diapers. It was just what is done. Diapers make it easier for us to practice EC in our modernised countries, with our carpets and busy lives - and using reusable cloth diapers combined with EC means our environmental footprint and spending is reduced as well. Charndra P.S May I post a link to my site on EC? It has an online guide helping moms re-discover their confidence in this ancient technique, and a lot of my members (well over 800) DO work outside the home - and so are part-time diaper free!
