Definetly older cartoons. I like The Fairly Odd Parents but old cartoons like Tom and Jerry or Loony Tunes are much better. One of my all time favorites is Animaniacs. I also like Alvin and the Chipmunks and The Angry Beavers.

The problem with the new shows:
1-No boy hero's anymore. It is mostly "teamwork" or girl hero's. This was definitely missing in the past but the pendulum needs to swing back a bit.
2-To many cute critters needing rescuing, the story seems overly repeated and stale.
3-Some of the musicians entertaining the kids in between shows have a scary look in their eye!!!
4-To many writers of the older childrens' show trying to show how cool they are. (They are writing kids shows---they need to get over it)
The problem with the old shows:
Although they were violent, the emotion was subdued. Add some of todays affects and intense sound tracks, you would have a different show. It is the INTENSE emotional push of newer shows and movies that has made me decide to hold off on these till my son is older. (BTW, at six years old, he has never had a nightmare-not sure if there is any connection of course.)

WTH?????!!!!!! How can you even put it up for comparison. Old cartoons will always be better. THey were much more thought evoking, were funnier, and the animation and art was even better. New cartoons just go to show how far we've fallen from the golden age. Literally, i am just astounded that u would even put such a foolish thing on the internet as this...effin shame on ur part. You are obviously very out of touch
