Kate Gosselin Makes Wise Decision Not To Pose For Playboy

It seems that there are, in fact, limits to how far Kate Gosselin will go for fame and fortune. Hugh Hefner, patriarch of Playboy magazine, has reportedly sent Gosselin a letter offering her $400,000 to pose nude for the publication. Gosselin has rejected the offer.

Now, the point of this story is not for me to decry anyone posing for Playboy; I don’t believe that it’s anyone’s business what a woman chooses to do with her life, except where children are concerned. If there is perceived harm to minors, then it’s a free for all. But Gosselin’s refusal to pose because she feels it’s inappropriate for her children speaks well of her. Despite the fact that she continues to be the center of a storm of attention regarding her situation with Jon Gosselin, she’s made the right decision.

Fame is a double-edged sword. It can open a lot of doors, but at the cost of personal privacy. That’s fine if the only person you need to consider is yourself, but when family is involved it becomes an entirely different proposition. Unfortunately, it’s not something you can simply step back from; it’s likely that Gosselin’s children will remain under the watchful eye of the paparazzi for many years to come.

But while it’s notable that Kate Gosselin has refused to pose nude, her continued messy and public fight with Jon is merely one step above Playboy — what’s on display is potentially more damaging to her reputation and standing with her family than merely showing off her birthday suit. Kids need to have a certain level of stability from their parents, and this is hardly that. The best outcome would obviously be for both parents to bury the hatchet and agree to put recrimination aside to focus on raising their kids, but it’s probably too late for that.
