You know, it’d be nice if the Walt Disney Company would be come up with some new ways to make fans happy. They should really put out a movie once in awhile. They could renovate some old favorites at their parks. They could come up with new attractions too. Lucky for Disney fans, this isn’t just some pre-cup of coffee ramblings by this mom.
Last week Disney held a new fan expo called D23. Legions of fans and a good number of celebrities filled the Anaheim Convention Center, including Nicolas Cage, Johnny Depp, John Travolta, Miley Cyrus and Jake Gyllenhaal. The stars were there to promote their upcoming Disney projects and the fans were there to hear all the up and coming Disney magic coming their way, which include:
- Park renovations: a Magic Kingdom facelift at Walt Disney World, including additions of Princess Pavilions, where kids can meet and greet each of the Disney princesses, and a new Little Mermaid ride, which will later be added to Disneyland in Anaheim as well. Star Tours will also see a 3D upgrade happen in 2011.
- Upcoming movie sequels (for better or worse): the next installment of Pirates of the Caribbean will be called On Stranger Tides and will be released in Summer 2011. If you didn’t get enough of the Travolta and Tim Allen on-screen chemistry (really, who did?), Wild Hogs 2 will also be released in Summer 2011. Clearly that may shape up to be the best summer of my life. Don’t forget Toy Story 3 in 2010 and Cars 2 in 2011.
- New movies: Prince of Persia starring Gyllenhaal, The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made with “How I Met Your Mother’s” Jason Segal, and a new Tim Burton project, Frankenweenie are all on deck. Robert Zemeckis is helming a 3D version of The Beatles Yellow Submarine as well.
Obviously Disney is busy coming up with new ways to please their fans, and I, for one, can’t wait to visit the parks to see the changes and am hoping for some winners at the theaters as well. I’m still a little bitter about Pirates of the Caribbean 2. If I can’t have those three hours of my life back, I’ll settle for a churro and a parade on Main Street.
